LEARNING A SOLO PROCESS
We welcome all children to give our in-house competitions a go. This is great experience for stage training and essential for any students wanting to set a goal of moving into regional solo competing which is only available through our Academy programme.
Please email us if you are interested in your child starting their own routine.
GRADUATING TO REGIONAL COMPETITIONS
It is extremely important to us at Silhouette that we support our students to develop and grow at their own pace so our in-house competitions have been set up as a safe space to help them grow and gain stage confidence.
There are also what we call ‘regional competitions’ which are Christchurch wide events where dancers from all around the city come together and compete. This does have additional expectations and a higher level of pressure which is why we are careful about who we select to go through to these competitions.
We provide an opportunity at our Term Three & Four in-house comps for our dancers to be considered for graduating to regionals. If a routine has been graduated then the dancer can accept or decline. If they accept then they need to commit to some further work on their routines, bringing them up to a ‘regional standard’ and we generally do this over the Summer ready for the following year. If your dancer graduates with their routine we will not usually enter it into regionals until the following year.
Sometimes we will also need to make changes to their costumes so they are in keeping with the Silhouette style, brand and standard.
From there, they have a selection of competitions they are welcome to enter which is the responsibility of the parents.
Going forward every new solo created must be graduated prior to heading to comps.
